I am an artist who creates commissions for the public realm and built environment in the UK, which include site specific permanent features for both external and internal spaces.
I work in a wide range of materials including silk screen printed glass, laser cut acrylic, sandblasted granite, water jet cut sandstone, and laser cut metal and poured concrete. I enjoy creating work that responds to the site and has strong connections to local communities.
In the studio I make work in the form of drawings, paper works, acrylic cut-outs, paintings and prints. This is where my initial ideas develop, and is the starting point for generating ideas for briefs and commissions.
Overall my work has dealt with issues of ever changing identity using grid forms, pattern and repetition, combined with image and colour. I often incorporate patterns, motifs and script into my work.
I also work extensively as an artist educator with young people of all ages creating temporary and permanent installations in schools and community environments.
”From working with people, Bhajan has slipped with the greatest of ease into shaping the spaces in which people can move and create. There is a prevailing humanism at the centre of her work.’‘ Deanna Petherbridge (Colour Dialogues), Artist, writer and curator
